Fire Department Election – Call to Vote
DATE: Saturday, February 21, 2026
TIME: 2:00 PM – 9:00 PM
LOCATION: Monroe Township Fire District #2 Headquarters (10 Halsey Reed Road)
I have written before of the importance to vote in local elections; next Sat. 2/21 is the Fire District #2 Election. It is important because it forces politicians to be aware that bad policies will not be rewarded. if all the residents in a district vote they have more votes to consider when they make laws.
If you received a mail in ballot please fill it out and send it in. If you did not, go to the firehouse across the street on the 21st, meet the personnel and vote for Jason Martin and our neighbor in Stonebridge Robert McGee as fire commissioners. it will take only five minutes and will make a difference. There is also an important public question asking to approve the Fire Department budget. This nominal increase assures Stonebridge that the Fire and EMS have the proper funding to serve our needs in Stonebridge and as residents of Monroe.
Please help us get the word out to the residents to vote in the community by “Liking” this post. Stand up and be counted. This is a very important issue, and we can help ourselves ensure excellent services, and as well politically (both sided of the aisle) just by putting in a ballot next week. These vote counts are distributed to all elected officials, and they do pay attention to the counts.
COMMUNITY NOTICE: 2026 PROPOSED FIRE TAX
Investing in the Safety of Fire District #2
To maintain the high standard of fire protection and emergency services in our district, e modest adjustment to the fire tax rate has been proposed for 2026. This tax ensures that Station 57 has the professional personnel and equipment necessary to protect our town 24/7.
How the Math Works
The fire tax is based on your home’s assessed value (found on your annual tax card), not its current market sale price.
- 2025 Fire Tax Rate: $0.167$ per $100 of assessed value.
2026 Proposed Rate: $0.177$ per $100 of assessed value.
- The Change: An increase of exactly $0.01$ (one cent) per $100$ of value.

Unlike general township taxes, these funds are dedicated solely to Fire District #2 operations, including:
Rapid Response: Supporting 24/7 staffing at the Halsey Reed Road Station to ensure quick arrival times for emergencies.
- Modern Equipment: Funding for specialized apparatus and safety gear, such as thermal cameras and advanced rescue tools—
- Training: Ongoing certifications for our firefighters in fire suppression and emergency medical response.
